2015 – November Club Night
On Thursday 5 November, 2015, Club President Christine MacLeod welcomed everyone then introduced our special guest Cathy Craig, the Great Great Great Great Neice of Mary Campbell (Highland Mary). Her presentation was entitled “The Connection & Beyond”.
Cathy gave a detailed presentation on her research, which stemmed from her father telling her many years ago that the family were related to Robert Burns. This intrigued her and she began her research. After a great deal of work, she realised that the connection was not with Robert Burns but with Mary Campbell. Since her discovery she had been able to contact distant relatives in Canada and Australia. The dedication to her research has to be commended, considering that most of it was carried out before records were digitised and the only way of obtaining the information was by visiting various libraries and the National Records in Edinburgh and beyond.
Club President Christine MacLeod then introduced Mrs Ann Still, the Great Great Great Grand Daughter of Robert Burns, who exhibited a number of family photographs during the break for tea.
After the interval Alan Beck introduced a number of pupils from Clydeview Academy, who entertained us.
Adam Beck – Bass Trombone – 2nd movement of Larssons Concerto.
Luke Anderson – Guitarist – Hugh Chrisy by Jeff Quigg
Hugh Jamieson, Adam Beck, Ruben Beck, Nathan Dunsmore – Barber Shop Quartet – “Evaline” & “Abide with me”
Josh Cunningham – Guitar” – “Yesterday”
Hugh Jamieson & Nathan Dunsmore – vocals – “Well Did You Ever” from High Society.
Luke Anderson – Classical Guitar
The boys then finished off with an upbeat version of “Fat Bottomed Girls”.
During the evening Polly Beck accompanied the performers on piano.
Senior Vice-President Jim Donnelly concluded an excellent evening by thanking Cathy Craig, Ann Still and the Pupils and Staff of Clydeview Academy.
