2016 – November Meeting
Our November club night was a very enjoyable and entertaining night.
Duncan Brown, Historian, Artist and Piper, gave a presentation on his book “My hero, My Soldier Laddie”, which details the 14 Lanarkshire Victoria Cross recipients. Duncan gave and insight into their lives and the heroics, which led to them receiving their awards. He also spoke of the campaign which eventually saw a monument being erected in Hamilton Town Centre in their honour.
In the second half of the programme we were entertained by the talented musicians from Clydeview Academy, Gourock, who performed a variety of pieces from the musicals, jazz and popular music. They were supported by Polly Beck on keyboard and Alan Beck, who accompanied his son Rubin with several Beatles songs. Their performances merited the enthusiastic applause by all present.
The evening was concluded with a vote of thanks by Senior Vice-President Jamie Donnelly.
