2016 – Summer Outing to Dumfries House

On Saturday 4th June, 2016, members of The Mother Club went on the Annual Summer Outing, accompanied by friends from The Poosy Nancy’s Burns Club, Skelmorlie. The destination was Dumfries House in East Ayrshire.

In 2007 HRH, The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay used £20million of his own charitable foundation’s money and personally brokered a £45million deal to secure the house and its collection of Chippendale furniture. The idea then was to create a sustainable business that would help regenerate the local economy in East Ayrshire.

An arrival, the members had morning coffee in the Dumfries house Library, followed by a tour of the property. After visiting other parts of the grounds, they spent some time in Ayr.

They later headed to Largs,  where they had a very enjoyable high tea at the Woodhouse Hotel.

A great day was had by all and it was agreed that Dumfries House required another visit in the future.
