2016 – RBWF Lasses Lunch 2016

The Lasses of Greenock Burns Club were delighted and honoured to host the Robert Burns World Federation Lasses Lunch on Sunday 15th May 2016 in the Tontine Hotel, Greenock.

Immediate President Christine MacLeod of The Mother Club welcomed 134 ladies and thanked those who had travelled many miles to be with us.

Our piper 16 year old Rachael McDaid piped in our guest speaker Professor Kirsteen McCue, Margaretann Dougall of the RBWF, Amy Morrison of Notre Dame High School, Christine MacLeod, Christine Reddy, June Forbes and Secretary Margaret Dickson, members of the Executive Committee Greenock Burns Club.

Christine Reddy delivered a very gracious ‘Grace’ before our meal after which we enjoyed lots of chat and friendship.

Following lunch our Guest Speaker Kirsteen McCue, Professor of Scottish Literature and Song Culture entertained us with a very humorous and witty speech in verse and song taking us on a journey through her experience as being the “First Lady” to deliver the Immortal Memory at The Bachelors Club in Tarbolton.

Amy Morrison recited “The Braw Wooer” and her twin brother John recited “Address to the Haggis”. The thirteen year old twins from Notre Dame High School have been reciting since they were four years old and have been successful in many verse speaking competitions.

Helen Morrison of Allenton Jolly Beggars gave a very sincere and heart warming Vote of Thanks and thanked The Mother club for the beautiful souvenir programmes and slate coasters as a memento of the occasion and also reminded us that we were gathered in the true fellowship of Robert Burns and the Robert Burns World Federation.

Cynthia Leitch of Irvine Lasses Burns Club congratulated Greenock Burns for a wonderful day and commented that “we would be a hard act to follow” as she invited everyone to join her at next year’s Lasses Lunch in Irvine.

We would sincerely like to thank Immediate Past President Christine MacLeod, Honorary Secretary Margaret Dickson, June Forbes, Christine Reddy, for their hard work in organising the event.

A very special thank you to Past President Sandy Reddy for producing the beautiful programmes and donating his wonderful “Home Made Tablet”, also to Treasurer Billy McCready for the many tasks he undertook on our behalf.
