RBWF Schools’ Competition
Competitions are held for both primary and secondary pupils BLAH BLAH BLAH
PRIMARY & ASN SCHOOL CHILDREN’S COMPETITIONS 2025

Date: Thursday 6th March 2025
Competition Starts: TBC (Venue will open from 9.30am)
There are 8 Classes as follows:-
1. Primary 1/3 Individual Recitation - Any Scots Poem or extract (12 lines)
2. Primary 4/5 Individual Recitation - Any Scots Poem or extract (16 -30 lines)
3. Primary 4/5 Solo Singing – Any Scots Song
4. Primary 4/5 Instrumental – Any piece or selection of Scottish Music. (No electronic instruments)
5. Primary 6/7 Individual Recitation – Excerpts from the works of Robert Burns (25 – 40 lines)
6. Primary 6/7 Solo Singing – Any song by Robert Burns
7. Primary 6/7 Instrumental – Any piece or selection of Scottish Music (No electronic instruments)~
8. Additional Support Needs – Art Competition. This is open to all children in Additional Support Needs (Primary and Secondary).
Entries must be ready for judging from 1st March. The subject is an incident from Scottish history or from a Burns poem or song, with the title ‘My favourite animal from a Burns Poem or Song.’

SUPPORTING INFORMATION
In Sections 1 – 6 prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each section.
The 1st from each section of the competition will be invited to represent the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Association of Burns Clubs at the National Finals.
In Section 7, the Cordelia Francis Trophy will be awarded to the overall winner.
Full details of the National Final of the Burns Federation Primary School Children’s Competition will be given to each of the qualifying competitors.
Test pieces chosen by the Competitors MUST be adhered to throughout the Competition.
A copy of the test piece MUST be sent with the entry form.
An Accompanist will be in attendance, though children may bring their own if they wish.
Please indicate on the Entry Form if an Accompanist is required.Schools MUST adhere to the maximum of 6 competitors per competition section.
All recitations and songs MUST be performed from memory i.e., without notes.
All entries must be submitted online by 14th February 2025.
The Club would be pleased to assist with adjudicating heats to reduce numbers if any school would like a visit.
Whilst most entries come from schools, individual entries from parents or organisations will also be accepted.
The adjudicator’s decision is final.
